Stem Cell Procedures

International Stem Cell Procedures

Stem cells act as our bodies’ repairmen; however, as we age or get injured, we sometimes cannot get enough of these critical repair cells to the injured area. Regenexx stem cell procedures increase the availability of these cells and enhance the body’s natural ability to heal.

Depending on a patient’s injury and specific needs, the doctor will recommend which stem cell procedure will provide the best results. Some indications benefit greatly from a same-day procedure (which is available in our California offices), while others are best treated with cultured stem cells (Regenexx-C). Regenexx Cayman also offers a tailored treatment for injured spine discs (Regenexx-C Disc). Cultured stem cells often expand substantially and additional cells can be cryopreserved and saved for future treatments.

At Regenexx Cayman, we ensure that your cells are tended to with the utmost care and attention, in order to guarantee the highest possible quality of your cells.

Regenexx-C™

The world’s most advanced, orthopedic stem cell procedure

Regenexx-C cultured stem cell procedure represents the gold standard for orthopedic stem cell procedures.

Patients from around the world travel to Regenexx Cayman to receive this cutting-edge treatment, which is performed by our U.S. Board Certified physicians who are experts in the field of regenerative medicine and interventional orthopedics.

About the procedure

Regenexx-C is a two part, cultured stem cell procedure. During part 1 of the Regenexx-C procedure a patient’s own bone marrow stem cells are extracted and harvested. Using a proprietary lab technique, our cell biologists then grow these cells in our state-of-the-art facility.

Typically, a patient’s cells grow to 100-1,000 times more than what was initially harvested, and if there are extra stem cells, they can be preserved for future use. The re-injection cycle normally takes place 4 – 6 weeks after your bone marrow aspiration (BMA). During this time, your cells are grown for approximately 10 days and then tested for quality assurance, including sterility testing and karyotype analysis to ensure there are no genetic abnormalities present in your stem cells. Once your cells have passed all safety and quality testing, you will be contacted with your results and invited to schedule the re-injection cycle.

During part 2 of the procedure, the cultured cells are thoroughly tested for quality assurance and re-injected, using guided imaging, to ensure the most precise placement of cells into the injured area.

Regenexx-C Disc™

The Regenexx-C Disc Procedure for spinal disc bulge or herniation is a stem cell injection intended to heal damaged disc tissue, rather than remove it. For many individuals who have considered back surgery, Regenexx has helped put them back to excellent health and a full return to the activities they love. Regenexx-C Disc is the most advanced treatment in the world for treating injured discs and the important spine stabilizers.

Regenexx SD™

Regenexx is the only stem cell treatment network to publish this type of analysis of patient stem cell procedure outcome data. The analysis is made possible thanks to the massive numbers that are compiled throughout the years in the Regenexx patient registry, which tracks patient outcomes at regular intervals following all of the stem cell procedures we offer.

Note: This patient outcome data is not part of a controlled trial. Every patient becomes part of a registry to track outcomes and any complications. This data is a compilation of patient input to the Regenexx Patient Registry at regular intervals following their Regenexx Procedure. In addition, none of this data may be reproduced in any way or displayed elsewhere without prior written permission from Regenerative Sciences.

  • Knee Function Improvement Data

This data utilizes LEFS (Lower Extremity Functional Scale) data from our knee arthritis patients treated with stem cell injections. Functional questionnaires ask the patients questions such as how well they can walk, run, climb stairs, etc. The improvements following the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure are highly statistically significant.

  • Shoulder / Rotator Cuff Patient Outcome Data

This outcome information summarizes the patient registry data for shoulders treated with the Regenexx same day stem cell procedure using the patient’s own stem cells. It was comprised of a mix of patients with rotator cuff tears, arthritis, labral tears, and instability.

  • Hand and Wrist Patient Outcome Data

This data was derived from a group of patients with mostly severe thumb arthritis who were injected with their own stem cells. Most of these patients would have been candidates for thumb joint replacement or a surgery where a tendon is coiled up in the joint at the base of the thumb. Both are big surgeries with significant complications.

  • Foot and Ankle Patient Outcome Data

This data analysis is part of the 2015 download of patient results tracked in our advanced treatment registry. The data shown here is predominantly for ankle patients that have on average moderate to severe arthritis with some also having instability in the ligaments and/or tendinitis/tendon tears. A few small foot joint patients are also included in this data set.

  • PL-Disc vs. Steroid Epidural Outcome Data

This data compares two groups of patients who received epidural steroids vs. PL-Disc and looks at their results at 3 month and 6 month intervals using a Functional Rating Index (FRI), which measures things like pain as well as the ability to walk, sit, lift, bend, etc.

  • Stem Cell Procedure Safety

Regenexx has published more data on stem cell safety in peer reviewed medical research for orthopedic applications than any other group world-wide. This is a report of 1,591 patients and 1,949 procedures treated with the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure. Based on our analysis of this treatment registry data, the Regenexx Stem Cell Procedure is about as safe as any typical injection procedure, which is consistent with what we see every day in the clinic.

Cryopreservation

With the benefit of modern day science, patients can now take the necessary steps to be proactive with their health, and stem cell cryopreservation can help patients plan for the future.Patient’s cells will then be cultured in our state-of-the-art lab, thoroughly tested for quality assurance by our cell biologists, and safely stored for future use.
